He is an architect, designer and journalist. Member of the Col.legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (Catalonia Association of Architects); the Col.legi de Periodistes de Catalunya (Catalonia Association of Journalists; Foment de les Arts Decoratives - FAD (Association for the Promotion of the Decorative Arts); the Ateneu Barcelonés and the Asociación Andaluza de Diseñadores (Andalusia Association of Designers). From 1982 to 1997, Larrea worked in association with Juli Capella. He has been a member of the editorial board of the following magazines: El Croquis, De Diseño and ARDI. He has collaborated in various daily publications specializing in architecture and design in Spain and abroad. He is currently working with the weekly supplement Fuera de Serie published by the newspaper Expansión.

Larrea has curated a number of design and architecture exhibitions in Europe, Asia and America. Among the most recent ones, we must mention: Diseño Industrial en España (Industrial Design in Spain) in collaboration with Daniel Giralt-Miracle y Juli Capella, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía y Palau Reial de Pebralbes (1998) and Centro de Arte Andaluz (1999); Pasión Diseño Español (Passion Spanish Design) at the Akademie der Künste. Berlín (2002) and Casa de las Conchas. Salamanca (2002);  Reinventando el Calzado (Reinventing Shoewear) at Centro Cultural El Carmen. Valencia (2007), Foment de les Arts Decoratives. Barcelona (2007) and Casino de la Exposición. Sevilla (2007).

Larrea has also been a jury member for national and international design award competitions. He is the author of a number of works on Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Publishing Design, Corporate Identity and Packaging for Spanish, European and American companies and institutions. As a result of that, he has obtained various awards, among which are the Mention of Honour of the National Design Awards in 2000, the City of Barcelona Award and the FAD Medal. Larrea has produced exhibitions, published books and participated in projects to promote design and architecture. He has been an advisor in design matters to various institutions and companies. President of Arquinfad and the Centro Tecnológico de Diseño de Andalucía (Andalucía Technological Centre of Design).
